We “discovered” Bada Bagh (Barabagh, meaning Big Garden) when on our Jaisalmer trip, when we where heading over to the Sam Sand Dunes back from Thanot. Its halfway between Jaisalmer and Lodhruva, the latter being a Jain pilgrim spot. The “garden” houses royal cenotaphs (colloquially called as chhatris) of the Maharajas of Jaisalmer, beginning with Maharaja Jai Singh II who died in 1743.
Damaged by an earthquake a few years back, the site sports two sets of royal cenotaphs: In the Mughal style (which bore the most damage) and Hindu-temple styled ones, which have been built using interlocking stones. As you drive up to the place it wows you. But the placement of pillars is splendid, as you can see in the picture.
