Sculpted Love

Bangalore is known as the city of lakes and gardens. A pensioner’s paradise that has slowly and reluctantly transformed to an IT hub. Despite the high-speed nature of technology, the city that hosts it continues to be laid back and slow in it’s pace of life. The South of Bangalore continues to hold on to…

Everyday Scene

This gorgeous mosque caught my eye when I first landed in Bangalore. I’ve been always slightly apprehensive to click the place in it’s entire glory. This has probably been my best click of the lot, from a car stuck in traffic. A perfect shot for the holy month of Ramadan , some day I will…

For Progress & Development

Vikas Soudha is a replica of the main Vidhan Soudha building (I like this one better visually though), built by the Karnataka government. Inaugurated in February 2005, it is intended to be an annexe building, housing some of the ministries and legislative offices.

Governments Work?

The front of the Vidhan Soudha building reads “Government’s Work is God’s Work,” (sarkarada kelasa devara kelasa in Kannada).  The cost of construction in the 1950s time was just 17.5 million rupees, but now, the annual maintenance alone costs about 20 million rupees. The building is illuminated on Sundays and public holidays.

Orderly

The Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru, is the seat of the state legislature of Karnataka. Constructed in Mysore Neo-Dravidian styles, with elements of Indo-Saracenic and Dravidian styles, the building was completed in 1956. If you want to catch a smaller scale version of this iconic building (no, I didn’t make it), keep your eyes open when you…

Looking For Peace

“We don’t find God in temples and cathedrals. We don’t find Him by standing on a prayer rug or sitting in a pew. God appears when we love someone other than ourselves. And we continue to feel His presence when we do good for others. Because God is not found in mosques and synagogues. He…

Pillar of Strength

I love pillars; the optical illusion through symmetry is so mesmerizing. This pillared corridor leads to what was once a bustling temple. History suggests that the Mughal rulers of India came in and destroyed several Hindu temples and godly artifacts. Yet, the government and archeological board of India has done a phenomenal job in ensuring…

Light It Up

Light is possibly one of the most amazing thing I have encountered. It cam cut through darkness and bring is wisdom. While the sun is the absolute and strongest source of light, to me it seems more like common sense, everyone needs to have it, and if one chooses, then can use it too. Artificial…

The Verdict Is Out

The Karnataka High Court building is also known as Attara Kacheri (18 offices) and is located just opposite the Vidhana Soudha, in Bangalore. Built in 1867 and despite its vibrant red hues, it is in fact build in Gothic Style architecture. Once here, you can also take a quick tour of the Visveswaraya Industrial and…

House of Glass

At the heart of Lalbaug, Bangalore is the “the Crystal Palace of India”. “The Glass House of Lalbagh” was built in 1890 as is modeled on the Crystal Palace of London. The original glass house in London turned to ashes in 1936 in a freak fire accident. It is said that this is the…
