Hinduism is a major religion which is followed in India. However, it is not a religion, but more a way of life as it prescribes the path of living. And to illustrate the true path of life, there are several deities or forms of God that we worship. And one of those deities is Lord Ganesha. Ganesh Chaturthi that falls in the Hindu calendar month of Bhaadrapada, on fourth day of the waxing moon period (usually falls between 20 August and 22 September of the Gregorian Calender). The festival lasts for 10 days, ending on Anant Chaturdashi (the fourteenth day of the waxing moon). Celebrated as the birth of Ganesha, the son of Shiva and Parvati, it is a believed that Ganesha descends to earth to bless during the entire length of the festivities, and hence the entire country experiences colourfully lit nights throughout the period. The idol is then immersed in water, as an idol that is instituted in the house with particular wishes should not be held back.
