Fishing For Food

I grew up in near the Koli (fisherman) community in my formative years, and their culture was fascinating to view from a distance. Their colorful attires, strange floral hair strings, love for bling and smell of the sea was very interesting. Their celebratory dances lacked finesse but made up in enthusiasm. With time, modernization took over and these original inhabitants on Mumbai city have left their culture roots behind. Every time I see this picture, one particular song plays in my mind. All celebrations had this song playing without fail, so the music in the video makes me smile… a happy reminder of a time when judgments were out of curiosity and not malice.
