Known as the Grand Canyon of India, this little forgotten paradise gorge is called Gandikota and is located at the Pennar River in Andhra Pradesh. Gandi means gorge and Kota is fort in Telugu. This beautiful and very abused natural wonder in the country is in a district called Kadappa, which is also form of granite found abundantly in the region. The gorge is packed with pink granite and if only it would stop serving as a glorious ‘attendance register’ (read willful, unattended vandalizing) it would’ve been an even more marvelous sight. Thanks to a long-time friend, who, I rediscovered by accident, I wouldn’t have known this place even existed!
