In Mumbai Local trains, you can pull the chain to raise an alarm at the train stops at the next closest railway station. As simple as this seems, it most often than never doesn’t work. Initially people would pull it just out of curiosity to check if the system works, so how such meaningless acts are a punishable offence. However this also means that long periods of inactivity messed it up anyway!
