Crushed ice seasoned with flavored syrup can be very refreshing and damaging to your throat at the same time. Also known as Golas, Chuskis or snow cones, these are a rage especially at the beaches in Mumbai. These are the machines used to crush or shave ice, and if you notice closely, they all originate from Rajkot, Gujarat. This wasn’t something I ever gave a second lance at, but I was fascinated when I noticed as my sister-in-law comes from the city. One of my cousins, born in the same city pointed it out as all the machines read the city’s name, reminding her of home. Like they say, home is indeed where the heart is!

I know this! This is one of those old-style ice crushers that people in our old neighborhood had. I have been telling my sisters that I want to buy one to use and as a quaint (nostalgia) decor in the kitchen. I think they do much better job than the modern contraptions. They are quite expensive now, though.
