Nainital at its Best

The eastern end of the lake spots hordes of hotels, bustling with eager tourists.  This part offers the best views of the small hill-station.  This point opens to the Deopatha peak. Nainital is believed to be one of the 64 Shakti Peeths. Hindi mythology talks of a story where Lord Shiva, the destroyer was carrying the charred remains of his beloved wife Parvati (also known as Sati) and this is where her eyes are said to have fallen off the heavens. The lake is where her eyes or Nain are rested, hence the name Nainital.
