The Sheesh Mahal (Palace of Mirrors) is probably the highlight of the Amber Fort or Amer Fort which lies, 13 km from Jaipur, Rajasthan. Closed for restoration when we were on a visit, folklore says that the room could be lit by a single candle because of the mirror placement. The palace was also the location for the famous song ‘Pyaar kiya tog darna kya’ from the epic 1960 feature-film ‘Mughal-e-Azam’. This song was one of three sequences shot in Technicolor, while the rest of the movie was in black and white and the striking actress Madhubala, with 100 reflections in the stunning mirrors looked and danced like a dream!
