Although Karla doesn’t really have too much to see baring the Karla Caves, the MTDC situated there features a lake. Sadly Lonavala is a monsoon destination and boat rides on the lake are closed. But you can play with these pretty ducks that grace the lake even during a down pour!

Coconuts
Being a South-Indian, my coconut-craze is very natural. I love this picture for two reasons, one because of the colour the tree brings to the Juhu Beach, and the other I was shooed away seconds after I took the picture (it was allegedly on private property … NOT!). But this was one of the fullest…
Camels
While Camels are a regular feature in the arid regions of country like Rajasthan and Gujarat, it was quite rare to find them atop the Panchgani Tablelands, which is a popular hill station. What makes this picture so compelling is the way the camels are resting with their mahout on the center.
Monkeys
Nestled between the Louisa Point and Coronation Points at the hill station Matheran, at Maharashtra is the famous Monkey Point. Most hill stations in the region are home to these species and they are not only naught but very adorable too. But be careful while using the flash on your camera, or handling equipments, they…
Sit in Peace!
The monsoon special hill station closest to Mumbai city gets it name Lonavala from the Prakrit language, which basically means a series of resting places etched from stone. The place springs to life during the monsoons and offers some spectacular sunrise, (even when fog hit). Folklore also says that Lonavala is derived from the Sanskrit word…
Vividly Blue!
Naturally created on the table lands of Panchgani, these water pockets can be found all over the scenic high-rise of the Deccan Plateau. Panchgani is an amalgamation of five table lands which are perched high-above the sea level. This particular hill station was a favorite with the Brit-rulers of India, especially as an educational hub, and…
Mahabeleshwar
The highlight of Mahabaleshwar is the Parsi Point. It offers the most breathtaking view of the Krishna Valley. The point is so named as it is said to be a favourite with the Parsi community. Foggy or not, make sure to stop over at the point when you are on your way to Panchgani.
Arthur’s Seat
Arthur’s Seat is set about 1470 m above the sea level and gets its name from British actor, Arthur Malet. Apart from the views of the River Savitri and the Jor Valley, any object, (other than a living being) tossed inside the valley tends to float in the air. However this theory no longer holds water…
Traitors Beware!
Kadelot Tok (A point from where people are pushed over) can be found at almost all forts in Maharashtra. The one above is from the Pratapgad Fort. The only punishment for treason in those times was shoving the traitor alive in a sack and throwing him off the cliff. Since most forts are situated on mountain…
Pratapgad Fort
Built by Prime Minister Moropant Trimbak Pingle on the behest of his king Shivaji, the Pratapgad Fort was complete in 1656. The fort is etched in history as the epic Battle of Pratapgarh 1659, which was fought between Shivaji and Afzal Khan, which lay the foundation of the Maratha Empire in the state. Pratapgad is…
