Healthy, Wealthy and Wise!

One of the best things about going to a market on a Saturday afternoon is that there are no crowds, plus the markets are neatly set up anticipating crowds that will follow. This is one of the many shots that I managed to capture last weekend.  Let me now explain why I picked this title. As India reels under the pressures of growing inflation, eating healthy is getting very expensive. So choose what you need wisely. And while I am at it let me list out the fruits placed on the stall starting from the top.

Top Row (L-R):  Apples, Oranges and Plums, Pears
Middle Row (L-R):  Apples and Orange, Red Apples, Pomegranates
Last Row (L-R):  Papayas, Custard Apples and Musk Melons, Mangoes

They are as good to look at in your photo as they are good to eat.
Only unfamiliar fruit —custard apples. Are they also called chirimoyas, or something like that? And what do they taste like, that they get the name “custard apples” ?

Yes Judith, they are from the same family, and are full of seeds. its fun to peal off the shells and east one bit at a time. Its called a bull’s heart because of its shape, but that is a big red variant of the fruit. i don’t really know why they are called custard apples, but they are locally known as Sitafal, the red ones called Ramfal, named after the mythical god Rama and his wife Sita from the hindu legend called Ramayana!
